Since joining Lantern in September 2023, Wilson’s redefined how Quality Assurance (QA) operates, championing efficiency and quality in every project. From implementing innovative testing frameworks for our SaaS platform, to mentoring a talented team, Wilson exemplifies what it means to work smarter, not harder.

What Does a QA Test Manager Do?

Quality assurance might sound technical, but Wilson puts it simply – “It’s about ensuring the quality of every product and feature we deliver. A big part of my role is building and scaling high-performing teams to deliver these results effectively. My job isn’t just to test the platform but to stress-test everything around it. We try to break things to ensure they don’t break for clients.”

Wilson’s days are a mix of big-picture planning and hands-on problem-solving. His Monday and Friday check-ins keep the QA team aligned, while midweek is dedicated to automation and collaboration across teams. Whether it’s identifying new testing methodologies or mentoring junior QA engineers, Wilson ensures that every corner of Lantern’s platform is optimised for success.

Crowning Achievement: The Automation Framework

Wilson’s proudest accomplishment at Lantern has been creating and scaling the company’s automation framework—a tool that revolutionized how testing is done. “When I joined, there was no automation framework in place. I proposed the solution, hired the right team, and scaled it to over 300 test cases. What used to take two weeks of manual testing can now be done overnight. That’s a game-changer for efficiency and the team’s work-life balance.”

Wilson’s framework allows the team to focus on innovation rather than repetitive manual tasks.

Automation isn’t just about speed - it’s about consistency and freeing up time for creative problem-solving. It’s about working smarter, not harder.

Why Lantern?

“I wanted to be part of something innovative. Lantern’s vision to integrate AI into private equity technology resonated with my background in data and finance. Joining Lantern was a chance to be at the forefront of this space – and it’s been an exciting ride ever since.”

Lantern’s startup vibe and openness to new ideas sealed the deal for Wilson. “When I joined, there was so much opportunity to make an impact. The team actioned my ideas, and we’ve built something incredible together. Even with a small team, we’ve created one of the most efficient QA setups I’ve ever seen.”

Life Outside Work

Wilson recharges by blending work and leisure – attending networking events, travelling, and spending time with friends. “I’m deeply rooted in the private equity space, even outside work. But when I’m not at an event or catching up with industry peers, I love unwinding with a beer and quality time with family and friends.”

Advice for Newcomers

Wilson’s advice for anyone starting at Lantern – or in any career – is as sharp as his testing skills: “Stay in your lane and be the best at what you do. Master your role first, then look for opportunities to grow. Transparency is also key – always be honest with your manager and teammates. That’s how you build trust and succeed as a team.”

For Wilson, it’s also about finding innovative ways to solve problems: “I’m that you might call a ‘lazy motivated person.’ Give me a tough task, and I’ll either find the right person for the job or figure out the smartest, most efficient way to get it done. Automation is my way of simplifying the complex.”

Looking Ahead

As Lantern grows, Wilson’s impact on the QA process will continue to set the standard for quality and innovation. Whether it’s scaling automation even further or mentoring the next wave of QA engineers, Wilson’s proof that working smarter pays off. “At Lantern, we’re building something that not only works but excels – and I’m proud to be part of that journey.”
